ABOUT PUPPY RESCUE

Hi I'm Maz, and I was the homing officer for another local animal charity for 3 years and decided I needed a break for a while. I had been away from it for approximately 2 months when people started coming up to me and telling me stories of puppies that had been abandoned and had to be put to sleep, or that had been found already dead through thirst and starvation. This really upset me so I decided to see what I could do to try and help and save some of the puppies as this is an ongoing problem in Spain.

Puppy Rescue has just celebrated it's First Birthday.   What a year it has been, we have now homed 312 puppies.  A lot have been back and boarded with Maz, Paul and Chris,  it’s been so nice to see what beautiful dogs they are becoming.  We are now going to do some follow-up stories with pictures of our puppies with their new families.

Every Saturday some of our previously homed puppies, with their English and Spanish owners,  come back to see us, and we are now taking pictures at the Stall.  We desperately need to purchase land for Kennels, preferably with a ruin on it so we can rebuild, as someone needs to be on site.  If anyone knows of anywhere?   Bearing in mind it must be cheap, as we have limited resources.

We have now built up so much support in both the English and Spanish communities, and Vets in Mojacar and Lorca, are now recommending us to people who want puppies.

Below is a list of volunteers who make Puppy Rescue possible:

Pepe and Manolo at Veterinary Almanzora in Albox have been great and very supportive.

Anne will be helping us in the future with any translations.

Margaret and Nina do the pictures and updates for the website and have slogged far into the night to make sure it is up to date. They are also our intensive care and bottle feeding nurses.  Margaret also hosts the Website for Puppy Rescue

Paul, Pam and Christine who without their help and support Puppy Rescue would not be possible.

Keith who puts up with all the dogs for me, runs me around and now helps on the stall.

Toni and Colin at Palomino Kennels who are always at the end of the phone and helped me out in many an emergency.

Carol who helped set up the Website with her son, Richard, who auctions items on E.bay for us, and is always there if I need her.

Richard  who created  website for Puppy Rescue.

In the future we will be working closely with SOS in Almeria, as they get lots of puppies which we can help re-home.
Maz will be starting a weekly Blog, so you can follow our progress.  Any other suggestions would be welcomed as
we do not get any funding from the Spanish government and rely totally on donations and people’s generosity.

When the puppies are old enough we take them to the local rastro (car boot) for people to see them and hopefully find them new homes.  People also ring from time to time to see if we have a puppy that is going to be, for example: a medium sized dog or a large dog, short hair or long hair etc.

All of the puppies are vaccinated, wormed etc., and are released on a weeks trial to the prospective new owners. This ensures that we see the environment that the puppy is going to be in and to make sure people are happy with their choice and have not changed their minds.

We are in the process of becoming a registered charity and our aim is to eventually have our own kennels so we will not be so limited and dependant on fosterers to help look after the pups.  We presently have 47 puppies and dogs in our care.

The problem with abandoned and stray dogs in Spain is massive, but with just a small donation we can make a huge difference and find a tiny puppy a loving home.   Remember no matter how small a donation you can give makes a difference.

Please read some of our stories and if you would like more information on any of the puppies or dogs pictured here please use the contact form, or give a small donation, it really does mean the difference between life and death.
